ABB is aiming to help customers maintain business continuity during the Covid-19 crisis by accelerating provision of remote connectivity.
As businesses worldwide have to limit site work, the need remains to ensure that equipment continues to operate in utilities, power generation, water management, manufacturing and process industries including food processing and others.
ABB is working with customers to maintain access to field operators and service engineers who cannot be on site at present, by providing live streaming from control rooms, process data and plant performance indicators to users in lockdown and working from home.
It can provide customers with a range of services, including remote condition monitoring of critical assets; augmented reality maintenance support; and online tools for training and spare parts stocking.
Many of these services are provided through ABB Ability Collaborative Operations, and its network of Collaborative Operations centres around the world. ABB experts and data scientists use digital technologies to help customers monitor assets, processes and risks, analyse data and provide remote assistance to help customers to keep production running.
ABB Industrial Automation president Peter Terwiesch said: “During the COVID-19 crisis, governments and companies are having to make difficult choices, balancing people’s safety with economic livelihood. ABB is committed to supporting both: protecting people, while helping businesses to stay operational. Remote services and digital solutions can make a major contribution to keeping people safe and production running, and preserving critical supply chains and economic livelihood.” He added: “We are committed to supporting our customers to run their operations safely, keep people connected, and help us all to weather this storm, together.”
