Don’t forget that Saturday 23 June is International Women in Engineering day. Around the UK, on the day itself and over the whole of the preceding week, a wide range of careers events, open days, taster days and conferences are taking place, aiming to inspire women and girls of all ages about the possibilities of an engineering career.
Jaguar Land Rover and Spirax Sarco are among companies running open days designed to demonstrate some of the roles and possibilities available (advance booking necessary)
The Science Museum in South Kensington is holding a Women in Engineering Family Festival on the day, free and open to all, in which visitors can participate in a series of drop-in activities and workshops.
The festival will highlight the varied career paths available to women in engineering, but is also a hands-on opportunity for everyone, aged 5 and upwards, to get involved in some fun engineering activities. These will all be hosted by female engineers and include racing a robot, trying to outsmart a computer, building a fake knee or even making pigs fly. No need to book.
